no longer servants but friends (John 15:15)

Law was promulgated first by the slaves, to educate the soul by means of external things and bodily , leading, in a sense, like using a chain to obedience to the commandments, so that man would learn to obey God's Word of God, however, has liberated soul, taught her to purify freely, voluntarily, even the body. Since that time, it was necessary that they were loose the chains of slavery through which the man had been formed, and that henceforth he would follow God without chains. But at the same time that the precepts of freedom were being drawn up, it was necessary to enforce submission to the King, so that no one would come back and show himself unworthy of her free ....

why the Lord has given us as password, instead of not committing adultery, not to desire it, instead of not killing, not even angry, instead of simply paying the tithe, to distribute goods to the poor, not only to love our neighbors, but even our enemies, not only to be "generous and ready to give" (1 Tim 6:18), but still free to give our goods to those who take them there ...

Our Lord, therefore, the Word of God, led the first men to serve God, then made them his friends as servants, as he himself said to his disciples: "no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know what the his master, but I have called you friends, for everything I've heard from my Father I have made known to you "(Jn 15:15) ... By his disciples God's friends, shows clearly that the Word, the Word of God is indeed for having followed his call spontaneously and without chains, the generosity of his faith that Abraham became the "friend of God" (James 2.23; Is 41:8).

St. John Chrysostom (around 345-407), bishop of Antioch and of Constantinople, Doctor of the Church
Homilies on First Corinthians, No. 27

'Go first be reconciled to your brother

The Church does not exist because we remain divided while gathering, but because of our divisions we are off, this is the sense of the meeting. If we come to the Eucharist, we do nothing that contradicts the Eucharist, cause not to displease our brother. As you come to give thanks for benefits received, not separately from your neighbor.

to all without distinction, Christ offers his body saying: "Take and eat it." So why not admit them all to your table? ... Make the memory of Christ and despise the poor? ... Take part in the divine dinner, you have to be the most compassionate of men. You drank the blood of the Lord and do not recognize your brother?
Although until now I had not recognized at that table you have to recognize it. We should all be in the Church as a house in common: we form one body. We acknowledge one baptism, one table, one source, and also one Father (cf. Eph 4:5; 1 Cor 10:17).

St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622), bishop of Geneva, Doctor of the Church
Introduction to the Devout Life, III, 8

"The wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God" ( Jas 1.20)

The holy and illustrious patriarch Joseph, when Egypt again sent the brothers to his father's house, gave them some advice: "Because, do not become angry" (Gen 45.24). To you I say the same thing. This earthly life is only one way to that blessed adiriamoci therefore not on the road against each other, walk quietly and in peace with our brothers and traveling companions. Clearly, and without exception, I say: If you can not upset you at all, there must be no excuse for you to open the door of the heart to anger. San Giacomo, without beating about the bush, says clearly: "The anger of man does not work the righteousness of God" (James 1:20).

must resist evil and to seriously punish the vices of those whom we have a responsibility, consistently and decisively, but always with gentleness and serenity ... The correction driven by passion, even when it has reasonable grounds, much less effective than it is the only reason ... What if he comes up at night and the sun goes down on our anger (Eph. 4.26), which prohibits the Apostle, turns to hate and you will not free any more. Because it feeds on a thousand false beliefs. There has never been an angry man who was convinced that his anger was unfair.

Better learn to live without anger, that to want to serve with wisdom and moderation of anger, and when, because of our imperfection and weakness, he takes us by surprise, it's better than wanting to reject it immediately enter into negotiations with it.

St. John Chrysostom (around 345-407), bishop of Antioch and of Constantinople, Doctor of the Church
Commentary on the Epistle to the Corinthians, No. 24

'Go first be reconciled to your brother and then come and offer thy gift "

" Even though many, are one body, all partake of the bread "(1 Cor 10:17). What is this bread? The Body of Christ. And what becomes those who receive it? The Body of Christ. They are no longer different bodies but one body. How many grains of wheat bread compogono! Yet those who see these beans? I'm really in the bread which have been, but nothing distinguishes them from each other, both are united.

So we are united with each other and with Christ. There are several bodies fed by several food; form one body nourished and enlivened by a single bread. This is why Paul says, "We all partake of bread." If we all share the one bread, if we fed him to the verge of becoming one body, why we are not united by the same love, which is closely linked with us by the same charity.

Re-read the history of our ancestors in faith and you'll find that famous picture, "the company of those who had come to faith were of one heart and one soul" (Acts 4:32). But unfortunately, it is not so today. In our day the Church holds up the show otherwise, do not see that painful conflicts, bitter divisions between the brothers ... Were far from him, but Christ did not hesitate to join him. Now do not deign to emulate him to join with all my heart with his brother ...? Because of sin, our bodies molded with the dust of the ground (Genesis 2:7) had died and had become slaves to death, the Son of God has added the yeast of her flesh, free from all sin, fullness of life. And he gave his body as food for all people so that, renewed by the sacrament of the altar, involving all of his immortal life and blessed.
