FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT YEAR A
If [the devil] will make this your poverty (...)
teach what you do not know;
opponigli the word of life
which is bread descended from heaven and gives life to the world.
St. Gregory Nazianzen, Speech 40, 10
COMMENT
Very often our life is a desert. Pitfalls of every kind, insecurity on the agenda and, above all, very little life, the real one, of what is worth living. Everything passes, runs off without being able to distill even a moment of happiness. Leopardi wrote it, youth, and all the effervescence of life "Passaniti all away." And the wisdom of the Bible, bluntly, he repeats: "Man is like grass, flowers in the morning, the evening fades and withers. "And an irrepressible desire within us all that everything does not end well, and a titanic struggle, through suffering, work, leisure, study, body, health, property and money, not to be a stamp printed on a calendar page turned quickly.
Nothing. round and round, the fight and beat her fists but nothing, life is a desert, arid, waterless, at best a few oases of refreshment, for the rest of the sand between your teeth, hunger and thirst and the popular mind of illusions, hopes for a better tomorrow soon turned into idols tyrants to which all dedicate ourselves restless. A desert peopled by shadowy figures, thoughts and temptations, able to take advantage of instability and suffering to launch their attacks. Do miracles, "human" of course, compromise, cheating, "exchanges" and so on because the stones become bread rise higher, higher than all because someone notices us, prostrate themselves in worship to any but the barker gain power and money.
Our life is launched towards the end and we groped to escape, to reach out in a Promethean effort to catch the tree of life, the ring, the lost ark, the holy grail that can conquer death. Embryos generated to make the guinea pigs, scientific monstrosities of every kind, nature and hailed diprezzata are just a few episodes of the drama we are witnessing: the mad rush to omnipotence, pregnant with death, the most atrocious.
The Spirit guides the Lord in the wilderness. To be tried 40 days and forty nights, the time required according to the symbolic value of 40. The Spirit of the Lord to guide our lives, and the desert they are. His love breaks just when everything seems lost. And 'here beside us, to take the slaps that the devil has prepared for us. Our temptations, lies and deceptions that time any day, I'm your food. God became man for each man. To get to the desert where man and tear him mortal anguish of a life without hope. Jesus is now exactly where we are, there, in our struggles, our sufferings, our anxieties. To win and to give us life. Life in death, the water in the desert. Without changing the desert. No illusions, rather than the miracle of a man who can live in the desert.
Lent is also that, to welcome the Lord in our life and live it, just as it is, experiencing the possibility of not dying in the precarious state of being calm, at peace even in the disease. The Paschal Mystery of God made in us is the only true miracle. For us and for a world unable to suffer the least uncertainty, the smallest injustice, hypersensitive to pain.
During Lent we can learn to live the Word of God, live for Jesus, even where there is nothing, which is humanly impossible to actually survive. This is Christianity, Heaven on earth and that is open to every man, destroying the door to eternal life, definitely, affixed to an end of all existence by the devil as a seal of his factory. In the desert bloom life. And 'This is the good news for this Lent.
